Open the Door to a Home of Your Own

If you are currently renting through the North Charleston Housing Authority on a public housing or Section 8 subsidy or are an applicant for assistance, you could be eligible for the homeownership program that may assist you in purchasing a home.

The Section 8 Homeownership Program works much like the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program except that the subsidy you receive is applied toward the mortgage of your own home rather than towards a rent payment on a home or apartment lease. To be eligible for the Homeownership Program, you must meet the following criteria:

• Be eligible for Section 8 rental assistance or public housing
• Be employed full-time for a year (elderly and disabled individuals exempt)
• Be in full compliance with your lease
• Not have owned a home in the past 3 years
• Use your Voucher to buy a home within the NCHA jurisdiction
• Meet income eligibility requirements
• Once you have been determined eligible by NCHA requirements you will attend homeownership classes.
